Week 1
Welcome to Week 1 of Distance Learning
Here are your tasks for the week. Please feel free to take pictures of work that you are proud of and post them onto your blog or email them to your classroom teacher at jamie@elmpark.school.nz.

MONDAY
Reading:
1) Choose 2 stories to read on Sunshine online, Literacy planet or from your library shelf at home.
2) Read 1 to yourself and one to somebody else in your home.
3) Choose your favourite story and draw a picture of the best part from the book.
4) Write a few sentences explaining why this was your favourite part. This was my favourite part because...
Writing:
Add the full stops and capital letters in the correct places for these incorrect sentences. You can type them or write them down.
Maths:
1) Count forwards in your 2s all the way to 40.
2) Draw a picture of what it might look like, by drawing something in pairs. Look at the picture below as an example.
3) Go onto this basic facts website for 10 minutes: https://www.factmonster.com/math/flashcards.
4) Choose Addition, Subtraction or Addition and Subtraction, and level 1 or 2. See how many questions you can answer in 2 minutes.

Reading:
1) Go to Literacy Planet and complete the tasks and quizzes that have been assigned to you.

Imagine that you’re an astronaut and you’ve crash-landed on a strange planet! You came across some interesting aliens, and one decides to follow you back to Earth. Here is his picture, now imagine that you’re introducing him to your family and describe him in 5 or more sentences. Email Miss Kim your writing if you’re proud of your work!

Solve these problems. Remember to look at the hundreds board at the back of your homework if you need help.

Go for a scavenger hunt inside and outside your house.
Find an object that begins with:
- The SH sound.
- The TH sound.
- The CH sound.
- The L sound.
- The V sound.

WEDNESDAY
Reading:
1) Read the poem aloud and find the words that have a LONG A sound.
2) Make some actions to go along with your poem. See if you can recite it without looking at the words!
3) Record a video of you reading and performing the poem and upload it onto your blog, or send it to Miss Kim.
Writing:
How could you pull the best April Fool’s joke in the world? Think up the world’s best April Fool’s joke and write a set of instructions about how to pull it off.
Remember, a good set of instructions uses sequencing words like the ones given below:

Resilience: What have you tried your best to do today? It can be anything - from trying not to fight with your brother or sister, to making sure you finish all the tasks mum and dad said you needed to do.

THURSDAY
Reading:
1) Choose 2 stories to read on Sunshine online, Sunshine Classic, Literacy planet or from your library shelf at home.
2) Draw 3 pictures retelling the beginning, middle and ending of one of the stories.
4) Write a few sentences for each picture explaining what happened.
Writing
Roll a dice to choose some characters and a setting from the pictures below, and write your own narrative story. Remember a good fiction story has a problem and a solution as well.
Extra: You can take a picture, or type or record yourself reading your own story and send it to Miss Kim.
Maths:
A double is a number that you add to itself. For example: 3 + 3 is double 3, which is 6; 4 + 4 is double 4 which is 8.
Draw the dominoes below and find the double.
2) Ask someone in your family to tell you a number, and see if you can tell them what the number before and after is. Here is a hundreds board to help you.

FRIDAY
Reading
- Go onto Sunshine Classics (not Sunshine Online) and complete the tasks which have been set for you.
Writing
Write a letter or an email to someone about how your week has gone. Include this information:
- What has been your favourite part of this week and why?
- What have you not liked about this week and why?
- Which activity did you like the best out of your online learning this week? What was it your favourite?
- Which did you find the most challenging, and why?
If you look in your Gmail inbox on Friday using your Elm Park account, you might see an email from Miss Kim about how her week has been!

Carry out a statistical investigation in your home. Find out how many of these objects you have in your house, and then record the amount using tally marks.
